Sir Rod Stewart has made a major announcement about his future in an emotional statement.

The legendary rocker revealed he will not host another 'large-scale' world tour.

In the statement posted on social media, the 79-year-old said he has 'no desire to retire' as he 'loves' what he does.

Updating fans on his career, the Maggie May hitmaker said he's 'fit', has a 'full head of hair', and can 'run 100 metres in 18 seconds'.

However, the star announced he'd like to 'move onto a Great American Songbook, Swing Fever tour' the year after next at smaller and more intimate venues.

The iconic singer-songwriter, who is from London, England, first began his music career in 1961. Since then, he has released loads of tunes including Do Ya Think I'm Sexy?, All for Love, Sailing, Baby Jane, I Don't Want to Talk About It, and many more.

He has also released multiple albums such as Swing Fever with Jools Holland, The Tears of Hercules, Cupid, and Blood Red Roses. 

Rod is also a well-known visitor to Glasgow and he is known for his deep love of Celtic Football Club. 

Over the years, the Hoops-daft singer has been pictured visiting many plush Glasgow restaurants and bars.

In the Instagram post, he said: "This will be the end of large-scale world tours for me but I have no desire to retire.

"I love what I do and I do what I love. I'm fit, have a full head of hair and can run 100 metres in 18 seconds at the jolly old age of 79.

"I'd like to move onto a Great American Songbook - Swing Fever tour the year after next - smaller venues and more intimacy. But then again, I may not...

After announcing the news, fans flocked to the comments of the post to support the musical icon.
