A Glasgow pub is 'thriving' after being saved from 'imminent closure' four years ago.

Legendary bar and music venue McChuills has thanked its customers and followers for helping them get the pub to the 'best it's ever been' when at one point they were at serious risk of shutting the doors for good.

Open since 1993, the High Street pub was facing closure in 2020 during the COVID pandemic after exhausting all avenues of funding and still not having enough to break even.

A fundraiser was set up in its "fight for survival" and the pub's reputation as a beloved community institution led to an influx of donations from punters.

Famous faces including Lewis Capaldi, The Snuts, Primal Scream, The Pogues, Peter Hook and Happy Mondays all helped to get McChuills back on their feet, with over £30,000 raised in the first 24 hours.

It would be the very day they completely ran out of money that the pub smashed its target and was able to carry on.

Now in 2024, the team say they are better than ever and the only way is up.

A spokesperson said: "Four years on, not only are we still here, but we’re positively thriving. McChuills is arguably the best it’s ever been and it feels like it’s still getting better all the time.

"There’s something happening here and as always, we’re just the hosts. It’s the people who make this place, just like it was the people who saved it.

"So once again, thank you all, from the bottom of our hearts. We love ye all.

"McChuills. Established 1993. Saved 2020."
