Scottish Water works are taking place on a busy Glasgow shopping street which has been flooded.

Water began pouring out of a sewer earlier this week on Buchanan Street next to the Subway station and defibrillator.

Barriers have been placed down the street as water gushed from the source.

The publicly owned utility was alerted to the flooding and work is now underway.

A Scottish Water spokesperson said: “We are extremely conscious of how busy Buchanan Street can be, particularly in the run-up to Christmas, and we are taking all necessary steps to ensure the health and safety of pedestrians and the wider public.

“We plan to carry out some initial site investigation work and a CCTV survey overnight tonight to understand the extent of what has happened and what remedial work will be required.”

“We would like to thank all those affected for their patience and understanding.”
