A former social work centre in Maryhill is set to be demolished to make way for “dementia friendly” flats, as the council plans several land sales.

There are plans to sell an old day centre for elderly people at Oran Gardens to Maryhill Housing Association for a net price of almost £108,000.

It would then be knocked down to build a block of 14 flats on the site. The deal will go before councillors for approval on Thursday.

The former social work building at the junction of Oran Street and Oran Gardens was declared surplus by the council in March 2019.

Maryhill Housing Association wants to demolish the premises to “create a dementia friendly residential development” that caters for disabled people, including those in wheelchairs.

There would be 12 one-bedroom flats and two two-bed properties as well as a sheltered courtyard and a car park with two wheelchair accessible spaces.

Four vacant plots of grassed land surrounding Kennisholm Avenue, Kennishead Place, Kennishead Path and Hopeman Drive are set to be sold to Glen Oaks Housing Association in a deal worth just over £160,000.

Totalling around 3.6 acres, the site will be used to provide 25 homes. It is part of a larger residential development of 47 properties. The additional development site is owned by the Wheatley Group.

Plans for the whole project were submitted in March this year and are awaiting a decision.

Land at Farnell Street, which is part of a site occupied by Chan’s Cash and Carry, could be sold as the firm plans to expand its premises.

Councillors will be asked to approve a £110,000 deal with Chan’s Ltd for 0.61 acres, which would then be used as a storage unit for dried goods.

Extra land is set to be added to a proposed deal for a site at Kenmuir Road, Carmyle. Carmyle Developments Ltd is planning a scheme which could include around 400 homes.

Talks over the sale of two sites at Kenmuir Road had initially been approved last year. The proposed purchaser has asked to buy the remaining land to bring all areas of the masterplan under single ownership.
