A Glasgow store has thanked shoppers as it closes down after 25 years.

Cancer Research UK has praised Glaswegians for raising more than £3.4million by supporting their shop on Victoria Road.

The good cause revealed the store in the Southside has now closed down after more than two decades.

However, loyal customers are being invited to visit the charity's new superstore nearby at Crown Street Retail Park.

The brand-new venue at Gushetfaulds Place, which opened its doors for the first time in October, is more than five times the size of a normal Cancer Research UK shop.

Announcing the worthy causes Victoria Road store closure, Area trading manager, Gina Esplin, thanked all the staff and volunteers who kept the shop going since its launch in 1999.

Gina said: “We’ve had some of the most amazing staff and volunteers in the Victoria Road shop and they have done a fantastic job over the years.

“I want to say a huge thank you to each and every one of them and to all of our customers for supporting Cancer Research UK’s life-saving work.

"I sincerely hope our customers will continue to support the charity. All are very welcome at our Crown Street Retail Park superstore.

"It is in a great location and sells high quality items with all profits going into the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of cancer.

"Our Shawlands store offers great high street shopping opportunities.

“We’re working towards a world where we can all live longer, better lives, free from the fear of cancer.

"Almost one in two of us will get cancer in our lifetime, but together we can beat it."
