Social housing is on the way for Arden after the council sold off derelict land to make space for new homes in the south of Glasgow.
Glen Oaks Housing Association plans to build 25 homes at Kennisholm Avenue on 3.61 acres.
Glasgow City Council has agreed to sell the land to the housing association for £161,150.
The development will form part of a larger housing estate of 47 homes – with other housing being built by developers.
Councillor Sean Ferguson, SNP, said: “The land is in quite a bad state at the moment. It has been for a considerable amount of time so it is just to welcome the news of this. It is certainly very welcome that there will be 47 additional housing units in Arden. It is an area like all areas of the city that is particularly affected by the housing shortage.”
Councillors sitting on the contracts and property committee approved the sale of the ground last week.
A council paper presented to the committee said the “four plots of vacant grassed land” surround “Kennisholm Avenue, Kennishead Place, Kennishead Path and Hopeman Drive.”
It said: “The subjects were declared surplus in June 2021 following the procedural non-operational process with no notes of interest being received.”
A planning application for the development was submitted to the council last year – and the bid is under consideration.
