A person has died after being hit by a train on a Glasgow railway line.

Police were called to Croy station in North Lanarkshire at 6pm on Tuesday, December 3.

The British Transport Police (BTP) revealed they received reports of a casualty on the tracks.

Emergency services raced to the area. However, sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers have said the incident is not being treated as suspicious. A report will be prepared for the Procurator Fiscal.

In a statement at around 7.28pm on Tuesday evening, National Rail revealed a person had been struck by a train between Edinburgh/Stirling, and Glasgow Queen Street.

The travel firm said whilst emergency crews dealt with the incident, some lines between the stations were closed.

National Rail said: "A person has been hit by a train between Edinburgh/Stirling, and Glasgow Queen Street."

Meanwhile, ScotRail said 999 crews were dealing with the incident and services via Lenzie and Larbert were cancelled.

Shortly after 8pm, the rail firm said the line had reopened.

A spokesperson for BTP said: "We were called to Croy station at 6pm on Tuesday, December 3, following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

"Officers attended along with paramedics but sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.

"The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the Procurator Fiscal."
