Jason Cummings insists he “loved” his spell at Rangers last season, despite the loan failing to give him the game-time he craved.

The former Hibernian striker has joined Peterborough on a season-long loan from Nottingham Forest and is hopeful of a better campaign ahead with the English League One outfit.

The Scotland cap joined Forest from Hibernian last summer but ended up being farmed out to Rangers in January after Mark Warburton was sacked and replaced by Aitor Karanka.

He said: “It was tough last season. Mark Warburton signed me for Forest, but when he was sacked the new manager didn’t fancy me at all.

“I played out wide a bit for Forest, which wasn’t ideal.

“I ended up on loan at Rangers, which I loved, even though I didn’t play much there.

“It was a great six months, the fans up there are unbelievable.”

Cummings scored six times for Rangers in nine starts, with a further nine substitute’s appearances failing to satisfy his hunger for matches.

The 22-year-old revealed earlier this summer that he was keen on a return to Ibrox but is happy to have instead linked up with long-term suitors Peterborough, who had a £1.7m bid for him turned down by Hibs two years ago.

He added: “Peterborough have wanted me for a long time and when they came in for me again I thought this was the place I wanted to be. It’s nice to be wanted by a manager who will play me.”
