Celtic youngster Ewan Henderson shone as the Hoops under-19 side won the SuperCup NI in Coleraine this weekend.

The youngster, the younger sibling of former Celt Liam, netted twice in the second period as Tommy McIntyre’s side came from behind to beat Manchester United in the final.

It is a prestigious Cup for the young side to win and it will be interesting if any of those on display start to make inroads into Brendan Rodgers’ senior team this term.

Henderson came off the bench last week as Celtic beat Alashkert in the UEFA Champions League first-round qualifier as he made his first European appearance for the club. Given the maturity of his performance against English Premier League side United at the weekend he will have done his chances of further inclusion in the Parkhead first-team no harm at all.

Meanwhile, former Republic of Ireland internationalist Shay Given has confirmed that he will turn out at Celtic Park in September. The club will host A Match for Cancer with Stiliyan Petrov and James Milner taking a team each to raise money.

“I’ve known them both for a long time now and they’re both great guys. I was delighted to help when they asked me to play,” he said.

“I lost my mother to cancer when I was four-years-old and I‘ve done a lot of work for cancer charities throughout my career, so this is a cause which is very close to my heart.

“I moved down to England but have always continued to follow Celtic and I still manage to get to the odd game whenever I can get up.

“It’s been great to see the first team doing so well over the past couple of seasons and Brendan Rodgers is doing such a fantastic job. There’s a real feel-good factor there at the moment.”
