I loved my time at Livingston last year. I spent ten months working with the squad and when David Hopkins made the call to leave the club at the end of the season he told me to throw my hat into the ring for the job.

It came to nothing but I have to say that I wish Livingston all the best for the start of the season.

They are a great bunch of lads with a lot of heart and spirit and they worked their backsides off to get themselves promoted last season.

I am sure that it will be a whole new ball game this term as they look to contain teams way more than they did in the Championship.

It doesn’t get any harder for them as they look to their first game of the season at Celtic Park as Danny McGrain unfurls the league championship flag at Celtic.

I’m sure that Kenny Miller will get a warm welcome when he emerges from the tunnel. I never really overlapped with Kenny at Celtic as my time was just about up when he came in. I hate to think that Gordon [Strachan] gave me the bump for Kenny but you’d really need to ask Gordon that one.
