CALLUM McGregor ensured his place in the Celtic history books after scoring in all five of the competitions the Parkhead club were involved in last season – the Champions League, Europa League, Betfred Cup, Ladbrokes Premiership and William Hill Scottish Cup.

But the midfielder, who is set to start for Glasgow club just off lone striker Odsonne Edouard against Rosenborg in the second leg of the Champions League second qualifying round tie here tonight, has no intention of resting on his laurels.

The Scotland internationalist, a key player for Brendan Rodgers’s side as they became the first in Scottish football history to complete the double treble, believes that he can perform even better in the 2018/19 campaign both domestically and in continental competition.

“I think you’ve just got to do it again,” he said. “I put pressure on myself. You have to try and emulate it as much as possible. Play well, help the team. I want my standards to be high every single day training and in games.

“I came back last summer full of confidence and things just grew from there for me. When you’re playing well you see things on the pitch differently. You try things. It comes from confidence and backing yourself.”

McGregor has weighed in with some important goals for Celtic since breaking into the first team - but he believes the fact that every member of the side can score increases their chances of winning in the Lerkandal Stadium and progressing.

An away goal tonight would mean host side Rosenborg would need to score four times in order to go through to the third qualifying round against AEK Athens of Greece.

“It’s just the beauty of the squad we’ve got at the moment,” he said. “There are so many good players. The opposition can earmark three or four players – and there’s still another three who can deliver for us they’re maybe not watching so closely.

“In our team there are goals from everywhere. It’s hard for them to focus on one or two, they’ve got to keep an eye on pretty much the front five players.

“We can back ourselves to come here and we can certainly create chances. If we can take one of them then it puts another margin between the teams and makes it a lot more comfortable for us. We’ve got to be confident.”
