ANDY HALLIDAY is set to be pitched in at left-back for Rangers’ Europa League showdown with Maribor tonight.
Boss Steven Gerrard will be forced to change his starting line-up for the second leg clash as his side look to move within 180 minutes of the group stages.
Jon Flanagan will miss the game through suspension after he picked up a first half booking at Ibrox last Thursday night.
And recent signing Borna Barisic isn’t eligible to play in the competition at this stage after turning out for Osijek in their second round defeat to the Light Blues.
Halliday has filled-in at full-back on several occasions in recent years and was given a late run-out in midfield against St Mirren on Sunday.
Boss Gerrard spoke positively about the impression the 26-year-old has made this term following the win over the Buddies.
And Halliday will now line-up alongside James Tavernier, Connor Goldson and Nikola Katic as the Gers bid to convert their 3-1 first leg win into a play-off round berth.
Gerrard said: “Of course and ideally we would want Jon available, and also Borna available.
“You want to go into these ties with your best players available but we will have a solution and the opportunity will lie on someone else’s shoulders. Hopefully they can go and do the team justice.
“I trust all my players and they wouldn’t be here travelling if I didn’t trust them. That is why you have a big squad and I made it very clear from day one that we will need everyone.
“We want to be successful and that means you are going to play more games, a high volume of players. It is not just about 11 or 13, 14 players, this is about the full squad of 22, 23, whatever it is and everyone needs to be ready.
“I spoke to Andy about the type of role he would have in and around the squad and he is happy with that and he will be used at times throughout the season.”
