GREG DOCHERTY reckons the chance to start his coaching career will help improve him as a player.
The 21-year-old has launched sessions in his name that will see up and coming talents put through their paces at his former High School, Douglas Academy, in Milngavie.
Docherty rose through the youth ranks at Hamilton Accies before earning a dream move to Rangers in January and putting pen-to-paper on a four-and-a-half year deal.
The midfielder is currently on loan at Shrewsbury and is determined to improve himself on and off the park.
Docherty said: “It has been in the pipeline for a while. A close family friend has always been keen on coaching and has helped me with different aspects of things on nutrition, athletics and sports science and was keen to get something going so approached me and I jumped on it.
“I think it is great and it could be really positive.
“I want to get involved in coaching and I am looking to do my badges so I really see this going far.
“It is learning a different side of the game, really. Last year I did a personal training course and learned more about the nutritional side of things and about the body.
“Now it is about developing my mind on the game through the coaching side of things.
“I am obviously not going to be a top coach straight away but it is something that I can have in my armoury and look at the game a bit differently.
“I might not, but if I do it could benefit me and I will try and learn.”
