STEVEN GERRARD insists Lee Wallace’s ongoing wrangle with Rangers won’t impact on his Ibrox future.
The former Light Blues captain was named in Gerrard’s squad for the first time this season as he took a place on the bench for the Europa League clash with Ufa on Thursday night.
Wallace has not played for Rangers since being forced off in the Premiership draw with Partick Thistle last September but is back in full training once again.
He has now fallen behind Jon Flanagan and Borna Barisic in the left-back pecking order, while James Tavernier has taken over his role as club captain.
Wallace is currently involved in a dispute with Rangers over a fine that was imposed in the aftermath of an alleged dressing room altercation following the Scottish Cup defeat to Celtic last season.
He and Kenny Miller have both appealed their punishments to the SPFL but the defender still has a chance to salvage his Rangers career.
Gerrard said: “He has been out for a year so he obviously needs matches and game time and we will try and get that to him in the coming weeks.
“We will consider bringing a team in for Lee to try and play and speed him up. I think it was important for him, for his own head, to be in and around the dressing room and around the crowd and we will try and get him minutes.
“He is fit, he is available, he is in full training. It is about game time now and game sharpness and getting his head ready to play competitive football again.
“We are waiting for the results [of the appeal to the SPFL] but whatever the decision is we will roll with the decision.
“If it is in Lee’s favour, we roll with it. If it is in the club’s favour, we roll with it. I have had a chat with the board over it and whatever decision comes it comes and we move on.
“He is available for selection as soon as we are match fit.”
