St Mirren last night sacked Alan Stubbs just nine games into the reign of the former Hibs and Rotherham manager’s reign. A statement released by the club confirmed that left the Paisley side after a disappointing start to the league campaign. Saints have won just one of their opening four games in the the Scottish Premiership after losing to Hearts, Livingston and Rangers. They are also out of the Betfred Cup after losing 4-0 to Aberdeen earlier in the season.

Stubbs took over from Jack Ross when he quit the Paisley club for Sunderland at the end of last season.

“Careful consideration was given to this decision and the search for a new manager will begin immediately,” read a statement from St Mirren.

“The club would like to thank Alan for his work during his time in charge at The Simple Digital Arena and wish him the best for the future.

“The club will keep supporters informed as new arrangements are put in place and thank them for their patience and ongoing support. ”

Meanwhile, Aberdeen have announced they will be appealing Michael Devlin’s red card against Kilmarnock on Saturday.

The former Hamilton skipper was dismissed just five minutes into the Pittodrie match after he was adjudged to have denied Killie frontman Eamonn Brophy a goalscoring chance. But TV pictures appear to exonerate the player. “The club can confirm they have submitted an appeal to the SFA for the red card given to Michael Devlin during the Ladbrokes Premiership match against Kilmarnock on Saturday.”
