STEVEN GERRARD has urged Alfredo Morelos to kick on and use his first Colombia cap as inspiration.
The 22-year-old made his international bow in the friendly with Venezuela last week and has recently signed a new deal at Ibrox.
Morelos was tipped for a bright future by legendary striker Falcao and Gerrard reckons there is plenty more to come from the forward.
Gerrard said: “He is in a great place. I have just said to him that if he wants cap number two he best start posting goals for Rangers and putting in consistent performances. That’s how caps come.
“We want all our players to be internationals and make their families proud.
“But the message is that consistent performances, individually and collectively, are what get you caps.
“I know Alfredo really enjoyed the experience.
“He has come back fine. He might be a little bit jet-lagged but that doesn’t stop you scoring goals.
“I wasn’t a player who read my own press and got too high about, or got too low when I was criticised.
“As a player there are different ways of learning. You obviously learn on the field by doing it yourself.
“But you also learn by being around top players, seeing how they live their lives, how they train, what mentality they have.
“There is no-one better for Alfredo to learn from than Falcao. He is a superstar. Someone who I really admire and have loved watching over the years.
“The opportunity for Alfredo is go and follow in the footsteps of Falcao and the top Colombian forwards. If he works hard and does everything right, I will be sure he will get more caps.”
