I am looking forward to keeping an eye on tonight’s Scottish Cup replay at Ibrox between Rangers and Aberdeen.
It is a game where I think the pressure is all on Rangers because they cannot afford to lose this one. They are 8 points behind in the league, they spent an awful lot of money in January on the likes of Jermain Defoe and Steven Davis and if you finish the season empty handed then it is difficult to see that any progress has been made.
At the very least I’d expect that Steven Gerrard would at least want to say that he took the club to a final in his first season in charge.
So the onus is all on Rangers to go out and perform and it will interesting to see just how they respond to that.
Aberdeen have nothing to lose. They fared pretty well against Celtic on Saturday and they’ll know that if they get a foothold in the game that the home support will start to get really antsy and start getting on the backs of their own players.
I think that with the money that has been spent and the arrival of Gerrard that ideally Rangers will want something to show for it all at the end of the season.
I know this is only the quarter-final of the Cup but it has a felling around it of one of the biggest games of the season for Rangers because I just don’t think that can afford to go out at this stage.
They were sloppy on Friday night against Hibs in a game that should have been out of sight by half-time. They can’t afford to have another slip like that tonight against Aberdeen.
How they cope with that kind of pressure around the game will be interesting in itself.
