GHEORGHE HAGI insists his son Ianis is in the perfect place to help his career flourish after he joined Rangers on loan.
The son of the former Barcelona and Real Madrid Romanian icon made his Rangers bow as a sub in the weekend's 0-0 draw with Aberdeen at Ibrox.
And he could make his first start for Steven Gerrard's side in the Premiership clash with Hibernian tomorrow night.
Hagi Jnr revealed he spoke to his dad about the loan move from Belgian side Genk and his famous father approved of him moving to Scotland.
And Hagi Snr, who is now the owner and manager of homeland club Viitorul Constanta, has broken his silence on the move by insisting his boy is now a star in his own right.
He said: "I try not to speak too much about Ianis because I think it's important he goes and has a career on his own without me talking about him all the time.
"What I will say is that what happened with Genk had nothing to do with him. When he did get to play there, he showed he was one of their best players.
"I am pleased he's gone to a club where he can play. It's a good move for him.
"I want him to be happy, continue to improve and enjoy his career and I think he can do that in Scotland.
"I want to point out why he is now a star in his own right. During Romania's match against Spain in November, I was in the stands and a boy came up to me and asked for my autograph,
"When I gave him it, he was delighted because he told everyone he had just got an autograph from Ianis' father!
"That made me happier than anything."
