SUPER-MIDDLEWEIGHT John Docherty cruised to another comfortable victory last night in Sheffield to improve his record to 8-0.
The Commonwealth Games bronze medallist was due to face Czech Republic’s Stanislav Eschner but his late withdrawal saw Pablo Mendoza from Nicaragua step in at short notice to face the Scot.
Docherty had won his previous seven fights in the pro ranks in extremely easy fashion, including a knockout within eight seconds, and he had spoken before the fight of how he hoped he would be tested last night in the six-rounder. However, yet again, the 22-year-old finished the contest in rapid fashion.
Mendoza was dwarfed by Docherty and the size differential showed with the Scot controlling things from the bell before securing the win when the referee called a halt to things just before the end of the first round.
Docherty's next appearance is likely to be in April, with the Scot targetting a British title fight before the year is out.
