FORMER Rangers defender David Bates looks set for a summer move from Hamburg, with reports in Germany suggesting that the Bundesliga club are prepared to let the centre-half leave the club.
The Scotland internationalist signed for the German giants in the summer of 2018 on a free transfer but has struggled to make an impression of late.
Bates made 25 appearances as Hamburg sealed promotion to the top flight but was then farmed out to Sheffield Wednesday on a season-long loan.
The 23-year-old has played just ONE game for Garry Monk's side - a League Cup fixture against Rotherham back in August.
Now, German newspaper Hamburger Morgenpost says that the centre-back is set to be axed by the Bundesliga club after failing to progress.
"Bates now faces an uncertain future," they report. "He will return to HSV but his situation is open.
"His contract runs until 2022 but he is not in HSV's plans going forward.
"In any case, the idea that Bates will come back to Hamburg with plenty of game practice and an increased market value has not worked at all."
