Steven Gerrard has issued a plea to the public to "stay home" in the hope of aiding NHS workers. 

The Rangers boss took to Instagram to share a picture of himself on the Ibrox touchline with the words “STAY HOME” in the backdrop. 

Gerrard said: “Please everyone STAY HOME and help out NHS! Let’s support our key workers the best we can by staying at home so they can keep doing a fantastic job for us.”

Rangers fans were quick to praise their gaffer for his wise words as his post racked up 60,000 likes in 20 minutes.

One wrote: “Well said Stevie G.”

Another said: “On your command captain.”

A third posted: “Stay safe Stevie, take care.”

And a fourth urged: “Listen to the gaffer everyone.”

We told earlier this week how Ibrox gaffer Gerrard and Alfredo Morelos led the way in the #StayAtHome toilet roll challenge.

The viral social media stunt has seen thousands of football stars from around the globe doing keepy-ups with loo roll to raise awareness for the COVID-19 pandemic.

Both Gerrard and Morelos posted to their Instagram story showing off their juggling skills and the official Rangers Twitter account was quick to share.

They wrote: “El Bufalo providing the Instagram content you need in your life right now.”

Before adding: “The gaffer showing us all how it is done over on his Instagram. Send us your best effort!”

Colombian striker Morelos nominated his international team-mates Carlos Bacca, Luis Muriel, Ivan Arboleda and Roger Martinez.

While Gerrard opted to call in former Anfield teammate Jamie Carragher.
