FLORIAN KAMBERI has moved closer to his Hibs exit after being allowed to fly home to Switzerland for a week.
The 25-year-old is wanted by St Gallen, Young Boys and Basel in his homeland after being frozen out at Easter Road since coming back from last season’s loan deal with Rangers.
The striker has been training with Jack Ross’ squad following their return from the coronavirus-enforced lay-off last month but has been left out of all of the club’s pre-season friendlies so far.
Another deal with Rangers appeared a possibility and contact was made over a possible repeat of the loan switch that saw Greg Docherty move to the capital in January.
But, with just a year left on his contract, Hibs want to off-load the marksman now, rather then allow him to leave for nothing next summer, and the player himself wants a permanent resolution to his future.
The former Grasshoppers player burned his bridges in Leith after claiming when he signed for Rangers that it had been his dream to play for the Ibrox club - whose fans he declared the best in the world.
Hibs’ capture of Kevin Nisbet from Dunfermline has ensured they have a readymade replacement for the forward and his departure could now be imminent.
Club officials granted him leave of absence to fly home yesterday, with Kamberi posting a picture on social media of his arrival at Basel Airport.
He is now expected to enter detailed discussions with suitors to bring to an end to his two and a half years at Hibs.
