Rangers target Jacob Murphy is interested in a move to Ibrox - but Newcastle have told him they want him to stay and fight for his place after impressing in pre-season.
The winger has been on the radar at Ibrox with a view to a potential loan and Herald and Times Sport understands a switch to Glasgow would interest the player. However after starring in a handful of games for the Magpies in pre-season, it is understood Steve Bruce wants to keep Murphy in and around his squad heading into the new campaign.
Murphy's playing time at St James' Park may be limited further by the arrival of Ryan Fraser but he is willing to push the Scotland cap and other stars Miguel Almiron and Allan Saint-Maximin.
It is believed that if the 25-year-old has not featured much by the time January rolls around, a loan deal could then be more tempting to his club.
Bournemouth, Sheffield Wednesday and Nottingham Forest have all expressed interest in Murphy in recent weeks.
