Celtic have not yet made a third bid for Charlton's Alfie Doughty - and they are likely to hold off for a pre-contract in January.
The Hoops tabled two offers for the left-sided player this summer which were both rejected by the Addicks. And they were expected to return to the negotiating table with a third to try and tempt Charlton into selling.
But Herald and Times Sport understands the Scottish champions have NOT made a third effort to sign the player despite desperately looking for competition for Greg Taylor at left-back.
Doughty can play full-back as well as in the midfield and is a promising talent. Manager Lee Bowyer has been hopeful of keeping hold of the player and recently told Celts to 'get real' with any potential offers.
The player's contract is up at the end of the current campaign, and Celtic are believed to be more interested in waiting until January when they can officially approach the Englishman about a free transfer.
It comes as they close in on Uruguayan defender Diego Laxalt from AC Milan on a season-long loan spell.
