Celtic will not be signing Robert Snodgrass on loan - but they are closing in on AC Milan defender Diego Laxalt.
Scotland hero Snodgrass, a Hoops die-hard, was a target for Neil Lennon's men ahead of this evening's deadline.
But Herald and Times Sport understands the Scottish champions would have to ship one or two players out of the club to get any deal over the line, which they have not yet managed.
The West Ham winger now looks likely to stay in London, though his club is believed to be willing to listen to offers for their player.
We told how Diego Laxalt is set to undergo a medical this afternoon with a season-long loan to Parkhead reportedly agreed between the two sides.
The move would secure Neil Lennon the competition he has wanted at left-back all summer. Fellow transfer target Alfie Doughty, meanwhile, is unlikely to be the subject of a third bid this afternoon from Celts - who will move for him on a pre-contract in January.
