Ally McCoist has expressed worries over Eddie Howe's potential move to Celtic after he was backed into one of the favourites for the vacant Tottenham job.

Jose Mourinho was sacked by Spurs this week and punters flocked to stick cash on Howe being the next man put in charge by chairman Daniel Levy.

Howe - who held talks with Celtic hierarchy over the vacancy in Glasgow - has not agreed on any deal at present and Coisty believes there could be more to it than meets the eye.

The Rangers legend questions why Howe has not yet accepted the Hoops job, if indeed Dermot Desmond has already offered him it, and reckons the Spurs role is one to keep an eye on.

He told talkSPORT: "Here is an interesting question, you mentioned Eddie Howe coming in from 20-1 to 6-1 in the betting, does that mean he will go out the way for the Celtic job?

"One of the reasons I am asking is that personally I have been a little bit surprised that he hasn't taken the Celtic job if it was offered to him. As you say he wasn't in a job so no deals had to be done with any other club. He was available.

"I thought it would have made sense if he was offered the job and he wanted it and was going to take it that now would have been the time to take it when he had nothing holding him back.

"So I think that is going to be an interesting one moving forwards as well."
