STEVEN GERRARD hopes Rangers will have half a dozen representatives at the European Championships this summer as his key men look to make their mark on the international stage.

Gerrard has seen his side storm to Premiership title glory this term and the 4-1 Old Firm win over Celtic on Sunday moved Rangers to within two fixtures of an unbeaten league campaign.

Rangers face Livingston next Wednesday before the visit of Aberdeen that will be followed by the trophy presentation as the champions get their hands on the silverware for the first time in ten years.

That will mark the start of a period of downtime for Gerrard, his staff and many of his players but a handful will go on and represent their countries at the finals during the close season.

Scotland boss Steve Clarke will be without the services of midfielder Ryan Jack through injury but keeper Jon McLaughlin is on course to be part of the squad that the Tartan Army will cheer on against England, the Czech Republic and Croatia.

That fixture will see McLaughlin - and potentially right-back Nathan Patterson - face team-mate Borna Barisic, while the likes of Glen Kamara and Filip Helander will be selected for Finland and Sweden respectively this summer.

Gerrard said: "We are hoping we have got six or seven involved in it but I don’t think anyone has had full confirmation just yet.

"I think normally national teams wait until a certain date and leagues are coming to an end and the games have finished before they name squads, just in case someone gets an injury or something happens when they can’t go.

"I think we are on the cusp of squads getting announced and we are hoping that six or seven of our players go and represent the club in the best way that they can."
