Eddie Howe could be given an opportunity to take over his boyhood club Everton this summer after sensationally ending talks with Celtic.
The former Bournemouth boss is waiting on current Toffees head coach Carlo Ancelotti departing for Real Madrid after Zinedine Zidane departed.
It is widely reported that the Italian will head back to La Liga leaving Howe in pole position as his replacement at Goodison Park.
It will come as disastrous news for Celtic and their supporters after they were desperately close to securing the Englishman as their new leader until recently. Talks broke down due to issues "outwith both the club and Howe's control".
These issues are understood to have been recruitment chief Richard Hughes being against a move from the Cherries to Parkhead.
Howe, 43, has also been linked with a move to Crystal Palace and Newcastle in recent times.
Meanwhile Celtic's next boss looks likely to be Greek-born Australian Ange Postecoglou.
