Celtic have lodged a bid for Rennes right-back Sacha Boey in the region of £1million.
The 20-year-old spent last season on loan with Dijon in France but has returned to his parent club.
But the Hoops are in desperate need of a full-back on the right-hand side and the youngster would represent a good deal in terms of value for money and potential sell-on worth.
Ange Postecoglou is also believed to be interested in Boey's teammate Brandon Soppy but Herald and Times Sport understands there has been no concrete movement on that deal thus far.
Now conversations, we understand, have started with Rennes and the Glasgow giants regarding Boey.
The defender has just one year left on his current deal which runs out in summer, 2022, so Celts would not have to break the bank to sign him.
They do, however, need cover as with Jonjoe Kenny returning to Everton following his loan spell last season they only have Anthony Ralston currently as a first-team right-back.
Boey is capped at under-18s level with France.
