DAVID TURNBULL is hoping that his double against FK Jablonec can kick-start his season, as the midfielder looks to get back to his devastating best for Celtic.
Last season’s club player of the year has had a slow start to the campaign by the standards he set in the last campaign, but he finally got off the mark with two brilliantly taken goals in the comfortable win over the Czechs.
And he thinks there is now plenty for himself and his team to build upon after some encouraging displays of late.
“I’m absolutely delighted,” Turnbull said. “For myself personally, the first few games of the season have been tough for me, but it’s just about sticking in and I knew it would come.
“Thankfully that’s my first goals of the season came now, and it’s just about continuing that on and getting more. I’m buzzing.
“That’s what [the manager] is wanting us to work on, playing possession football, attacking football, and he’s letting us go and express ourselves.
“It’s great for the team, everybody trusts each other and we’re being brave on the ball. That’s what everybody is doing at the moment.
“It was a great performance all round. There’s a few wee bits we need to tidy up on, but it’s something to build on, especially with the last few results.
“It’s something to build on now, and keep the momentum going.”
Turnbull got his first taste of a full Celtic Park in the green and white hoops, and he says the backing made a huge difference to the team as a whole.
“That’s what we’ve missed for the past year and a half,” he said.
“That’s my first time experiencing it on the home team and I loved every minute of it. They were great from minute one until the end.
“That’s what we’re looking forward to, playing in front of that again.”
