Allan McGregor 6
Could do nothing to stop Karl Toko Ekambi’s exquisitely struck opener. Good stop to deny Houssem Aouar but was helpless as Islam Slimani bundled in the rebound.
James Tavernier 6
The skipper was his usual energetic self as he bombed up and down the right but will have hoped to contribute more going forward. Excellent block towards the end of the first half to deny Toko Ekambi a one-on-one and unfortunate deflection for his own goal.
Connor Goldson 6
The centre-half was restored to the starting XI and can be pleased with his performances. Long, raking balls forward asked some awkward questions of Jerome Boateng and caught the Lyon defence out once or twice.
Leon Balogun 7
Looked assured at the back as he greedily hoovered up misplaced passes. Clever play in the first half to draw a foul from Slimani and get the striker in the book, although the Nigeria internationalist looked a little uncomfortable on the ball on occasion.
Borna Barisic 6
Another who was back in the starting line-up after missing the victory at Tannadice at the weekend. Got into dangerous positions throughout the contest but looked vulnerable in transition.
John Lundstram 5
Looked a little shaky on the ball and was easily beaten by Toko Ekambi for the opening goal when he should have forced the winger down the line. Dragged a pot-shot just wide of the far post in the first half.
Steven Davis 5
Quiet night for the veteran midfielder. Couldn’t get on the ball as much as he would have liked to dictate play from the middle before being hooked on the hour-mark.
Glen Kamara 6
Was happy to take the ball under pressure and shift it on but misplaced a few passes as the game wore on.
Joe Aribo 5
Started on the right as Steven Gerrard opted for a more defensively-minded midfield before shifting infield. Produced a decent shot from a tight angle to test Anthony Lopes but didn’t exert as much influence as he would have liked.
Ryan Kent 7
Forced a few errors from the Lyon defenders early on as he intelligently pressed them and always looked like Rangers’ greatest threat going forward. Provided the occasional spark to beat his opponent and forced a good stop from Lopes at the end of the first half.
Alfredo Morelos 6
Didn’t have many goalscoring opportunities but the striker’s all-round play was good. Used his body intelligently and linked up well with Kent.
Substitutes
Scott Wright 4
(for Davis, 60) Added some attacking verve and looked dangerous when driving at the Lyon defence.
Kemar Roofe 3
(for Kent, 70) Failed to make significant impact.
Fashion Sakala 3
(for Aribo, 76) Failed to make significant impact.
