Allan McGregor 6
Quiet night for the goalkeeper but he won’t mind one bit. Didn’t have all that much to do but did very little wrong.
James Tavernier 7
Superb assist from an early corner opened the scoring at Ibrox. Marauded up and down the right in trademark fashion but will be hoping to make more of an impact in the final third from open play.
Connor Goldson 7
A commanding performance at the back. Kept his opposite number quiet and limited Brondby’s attackers to the odd pot-shot. Excellent distribution when on the ball.
Leon Balogun 7
Showed excellent strength to hold off two opponents as he steered in Tavernier’s corner in the first half. Hardly put a foot wrong before an injury forced him off early.
Borna Barisic 6
Kept things quiet down the left but was rarely seriously tested, in truth. Will surely face more grueling opponents in future.
Steven Davis 6
Was back in the starting line-up to cover for the suspended Glen Kamara. Kept things ticking over in the middle and will be pleased to get the full 90 minutes under his belt.
Joe Aribo 8
The best player on the park. Hard working and industrious off the ball and effective on it too. Had a big hand in Rangers’ second and was always his team’s greatest creative outlet. Was denied a stonewall penalty.
John Lundstram 7
Another encouraging performance from the Englishman. Provided some extra cover in defence on occasion by dropping between the two centre-backs but could have offered more going forward. Seemed a little reluctant to get up the park at times.
Ianis Hagi 6
Showed the odd bit of neat footwork and recycled possession well but it was a relatively quiet night for the playmaker.
Kemar Roofe 6
Won’t score an easier goal in his career after prodding the ball into an empty net from a couple of yards out. VAR showed the striker was onside – just – and his goal gave Rangers some breathing space.
Alfredo Morelos 4
Poor night from the Colombian. Snatched at a few half-chances but his build-up play will be his manager’s biggest concern. Looked off the pace and was let down by poor decision-making.
Substitutes
Calvin Bassey (for Balogun, 64) 5
Thrown in at centre-back but fared well in Balogun’s absence.
Fashion Sakala (for Morelos, 71) 5
Great run to burst clear of the Brondby defence with 10 to go but couldn’t beat the keeper.
Scott Arfield (for Lundstram, 78) 4
Brought on to provide some energy in the middle.
Juninho Bacuna (for Roofe, 78) 3
Came on to shore up the midfield.
Scott Wright (for Hagi, 78) 4
Was inches away from scoring minutes after coming on. Looked lively.
