RANGERS had been expected to wear their commemorative Gallant Pioneers kit as part of 150th anniversary celebrations today.

But instead, the Rangers side wore their traditional blue home strip for the 1-0 win over Aberdeen at Ibrox.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst's side had worn the top of the 150th anniversary kit in the warm-up before changing into their regular home shirt.

And the club have now explained the decision to stick with the home kit for the fixture.

A statement revealed sticking to the traditional blue strip seemed "fitting" on the "momentous occasion".

And it also confirmed the strip will be worn in a future match.

The statement read: "The club felt that it was fitting to wear our traditional blue home strip to mark this momentous occasion for Rangers FC as we celebrate our 150th anniversary year.

"We look forward to wearing the Gallant Pioneers strip at a future game, as displayed by the team in today's warm-up."
