SCOTT MCTOMINAY lacks the quality to be a nailed on Manchester United starter.
That's according to former United defender Mikael Silvestre.
The Scotland star has been a mainstay in the Red Devils' midfield since making his debut under Jose Mourninho in 2017.
Praised for his combative, athletic and physical abilities, the 25-year-old has been a useful player during that time.
However, at the same time, in more recent years, the academy product has been criticsed for his lack of creativity and passing ability on the ball.
While Silvestre says McTominay still has a role to play under new boss Erik ten Hag, the Frenchman reckons his old club must recruit better players for his position.
Speaking to Lord Ping, he commented: "In terms of top quality midfield players, there are other players in the market that should come ahead of him, however, he can add value as a rotation player.
"Scott McTominay can be a starter but ideally you want someone with better quality in the middle of the park to bring the team into contention for the top spot in the Premier League.
"I think he had a difficult season last year, like most of the team and he has enough qualities to feature for Manchester United and has been a solid servant for the club from the academy."
