AJAX have agreed a £20million deal for Rangers defender Calvin Bassey as he gets set to clinch a move to the Dutch giants next week.
A host of Premier League sides had been keeping a close eye on Bassey's situation this summer following his Man of the Match showings in the Europa League and Scottish Cup finals.
And Brighton and Hove Albion had looked to move to the head of the queue in the race to secure his signature ahead of the new campaign.
But it is Ajax that will land Bassey on a long-term deal as he prepares to put pen-to-paper and secure a record-breaking fee for Rangers.
The £20million package, which includes a further payment for add-ons and a ten per cent sell on fee, will surpass the deal that the Light Blues received for Nathan Patterson in January.
Bassey was a £230,000 signing from Leicester two seasons ago and the Nigerian internationalist has now earned a dream move to the former European champions as he prepares to head for the Ibrox exit door in the coming days.
