ROBERT Snodgrass is confident his Hearts team mate Cammy Devlin will learn from his sending off against Rangers on Saturday and be a better player for the Tynecastle club in future.

Devlin received a straight red card from referee Steve McLean six minutes before half-time in the cinch Premiership match in Gorgie on Saturday, 01 October 2022

The defensive midfielder, who won his first cap for Australia during the international break, stamped on Rabbi Matondo’s ankle just in front of the visitors’ technical area.

Snodgrass, who made his Hearts debut when he replaced Barrie McKay at the start of the second-half, revealed the 24-year-old was contrite after the final whistle.

But the former Scotland internationalist thinks Devlin will think twice before making such a rash and needless challenge after he serves his suspension.

“He knows himself,” he said. “He was down in the dressing room. Sometimes after games it is hard with the emotion. He has gone in there to win the ball, has maybe kicked the boy and it is a red card.

“But he will come back stronger. He is a good kid and he is a good player as well. We definitely need him in the team. He is one who the lads really enjoy. He is good about the squad. Unfortunately, he misses games now. He just needs to get himself prepped.

“He has just come back after being called up by his national team. He was as high as a kite. His family was there. But this is the highs and lows of football. It is about how you adjust, how you react to that. Listen, if I can try and help him in anyway through my experience then I will definitely do that.

“If I can give my experience and help out in certain ways, especially after a defeat like that, I will. We have to pick ourselves up and get ready for a big game against Fiorentina in the Conference League on Thursday.”
