Celtic star Jota will not be heading to the World Cup this winter.

The Hoops attacker has been left out of Portugal's final 26-man squad for the tournament in Qatar later this month.

The 23-year-old had been handed a place in the preliminary squad, which included a fellow 54-players.

However, Fernando Santos has selected his final pool of stars to head to the World Cup, and Jota will not be on the plane.

The likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Bernardo Silva, Diogo Jota and Joao Felix are all amongst the big names in the squad.

Jota has never featured for his country at senior level, although, has played at almost all of the younger age groups while growing up.

He joins Matt O'Riley and Kyogo in their disappointment at not heading to the great tournament of them all.

Cameron Carter-Vickers was named in the USA squad yesterday and will be heading to the Middle East next week.

He will be joined by fellow Hoops teammate Daizen Maeda, who is part of the Japan squad.

Josip Juranovic has been selected by Croatia too, while Aaron Mooy will be part of Australia's pool as well.
