Michael Beale has officially been appointed as Rangers' new manager.

The former first-team coach has signed a contract with the Glasgow club until 2026. 

After serving for three-and-a-half years under Steven Gerrard, the 42-year-old has made his return to Ibrox after leaving last November to join the Liverpool legend at Aston Villa.

Now, Beale has left Queens Park Rangers after just six months in charge.

In a statement made on Monday, Beale said: "I am hugely proud, it is a wonderful, wonderful football club, it is an institution.

"For everyone that works here it is a huge privilege, but to be the manager of this football club, that is extremely special."

We took to the streets of Glasgow to find out what Rangers fans think of the Englishman's appointment. 

Glasgow Times:

Jean Mason, 58, from Fernhill in South Lanarkshire, said: "I am delighted. 

"I have faith that he'll turn things around. You saw the difference when he was up for the Aberdeen game. The players turned it on for him and proved to him that if he comes, this is what the team are capable of. 

"I would like to wish him all the luck because I want my team back on top again." 

Glasgow Times:

Rick Swan, 66, from Glasgow city centre, said: "I'm pleased to hear the news. 

"I think it's a realistic appointment and I think it's a win-win for Rangers. He's a guy who knows the club and he seems to be a decent enough fella.

"I think that he's got a major job to do because at the moment the team appears to be coming to the end of its cycle. There needs to be some investment there and if that happens, we should be good to go.

"I wish him good wishes, I think he's a real Ranger."

Glasgow Times:

However, William Black, 60, from Blantyre, said: "I don't know if I have faith in him or not.

"I was hoping for a more established name, a bigger manager maybe, but we just have to go with it.

"I'm a bit weary but hopefully he turns it around for us."

Jennifer Hall, 38, from Summerston, said: "I'm quite excited about Michael Beale coming in although there is a bit of apprehension.

"Although he is a new manager in football and when he was previously here he did well as the brains behind the operation, there is the concern of not having the face of Gerrard.

"But, I think he has got the motivation and the potential is there, so, fingers crossed he does well."

Glasgow Times:

Neil Brown, 37, from Govan, said: "I'm quite happy with the appointment. 

"He's been here before and he had a bit of success, but I would like to go in another direction, to be honest. 

"There were a couple of managers names tossed around and some of them had success in Europe and maybe that would have been good, to get fresh ideas because we've been playing the same way for the last 10 years.

"But, I wish him the best of luck and hope he has every success in the future. We'll be needing it, to be honest." 

Glasgow Times:

Ian Brown, 72, from Falkirk, added: "Welcome, Michael.

"I hope he gets us back to where we should be, as number one in Scotland."

Beale's first competitive game as Rangers manager will be on December 15 at home to Hibernian.
