Ben Doak may only have just made his Premier League debut for Liverpool.

However, former Scotland international Alan Hutton reckons a loan move may be on the cards for the supremely talented 17-year-old this January.

Liverpool will sign Dutch international Cody Gakpo in the coming weeks to bolster their forward line.

It comes after Jurgen Klopp lost Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz to injury in recent times.

And while Hutton reckons Doak has done brilliantly well since joining the Anfield club earlier this year, the ex-Rangers right-back thinks the Ayrshire-lad may benefit from a loan to continue his development by playing first team football.

Since joining from Celtic for around £600,000, Doak has taken to Liverpool like a duck to water.

He's impressed for their academy side in the Premier League 2 and in the UEFA Youth League.

He made his Reds debut in the EFL Cup in recent months against Derby County.

Against Villa on Boxing Day, he achieved another milestone by making his Premier League debut as a late substitute.

But with the arrival of Gakpo only around the corner, Hutton thinks this will mean restricted opportunities for Doak.

He told Football Insider: “I think Klopp sees him in the Liverpool starting lineup in the future, but maybe not at this moment in time because they are going to bring in different players from different positions to strengthen right now.

“Players like Doak are obviously the future, but the opportunity has to be there for them to go out and play football on loan.

"But it has to be the right club, it has to fit their style of football. I expect it to happen if the right club is found."

PSV confirmed on Boxing Day that they'd agreed a deal to sell Gakpo to Liverpool.
