Ex-Rangers captain Barry Ferguson has urged striker Alfredo Morelos to "get fitter".

The former Scotland international has maintained that the 26-year-old has to get himself in better physical condition for the remainder of the season.

Ferguson also claimed he could see the Colombian "moving on" in the near future.

Morelos' contract is up at the end of the season, but the 44-year-old still feels he can play his part in the remainder of the current campaign.

Speaking on the Go Radio Football Show, he said: "He needs to get fitter for me but I think Morelos in the Rangers team, they do look a far better team.

"He occupies centre backs, he moves them about and it frees up space for guys like Tillman and Kent.

"I can see him moving on but I think Morelos has to play [against Aberdeen in semi-final]. I know Colak picked up another injury, Roofe has been out for a number of months so you need to take your time with him. He is a certain starter on Sunday."

Ferguson also insisted Allan McGregor is still the "best goalkeeper" at Ibrox.

He explained that he was surprised to see Jon McLaughlin starting between the sticks during the recent victory over Dundee United.

Michael Beale has opted to rotate the position since becoming Light Blues boss, however, the ex-Gers captain feels that McGregor is the best option despite his faults this season.

"He's the best goalkeeper I've played with - full stop.

"And I've played with unbelievable goalkeepers. Stefan Klos, Brad Friedel, Joe Hart, Ben Foster - I can go on.

"They're top class. But for me, he's the best goalkeeper. It's never been his strong point, cross balls, but if you're asking my opinion on who the best keeper at Rangers is, I'd be picking Allan McGregor."
