Celtic are said to be very keen to offload Giorgos Giakoumakis to Urawa Red Diamonds.

The J-League outfit are deep in negotiations over an £8million deal for the 28-year-old.

Other clubs across the globe, such as Sampdoria in Italy, are also eager to sign the Greek internationalist.

However, last season's Premiership joint-top scorer appears to be edging closer a transfer to Japan.

The Scottish Sun say Urawa have offered Giakoumakis a big-money offer he cannot refuse.

Their report states that the deal could be sealed by the weekend, subject to further talks over the next couple of days.

With one striker heading out of Parkhead, work is being done to ensure Ange Postecoglou has a new hitman at his disposal soon.

Celtic's recruitment chiefs have lined up South Korea star Cho Gue-sung. It's said he could be the final piece of January business for the champions.

The Hoops are locked in talks with his side, Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors, having supposedly made a bid of £2.6million with a 50 per cent sell-on clause up to £5.2million.

They do face competition from MLS side Minnesota, however, Celtic are confident their bid will be accepted.

The standout World Cup star admitted last week that he was aware of interest from Celtic.

He said: "Celtic have six Japanese players in its squad.

"As you can see there, it is a team that has invested heavily in the Asian market over the past few years and there have been talks."
