Celtic remain interested in South Korea striker Oh Hyeon-gyu, according to reports.

It's claimed the Parkhead club are persisting in tracking the forward with a view to a possible transfer swoop.

Hyeon-gyu - who plays for Suwon Samsung Bluewings - could be turned to as a possible alternative to Cho Gue-Sung who may remain with his current club Jeonbuk Hyundai.

Celtic were previously credited with an interest in Hyeon-gyu and reports in his homeland suggest as improved bid may have been tabled for his services.

XSport News in South Korea reports Celtic interest appears to be shifting to Hyeon-gyu with Gue-Sung weighing up remaining with his current club despite European interest.

Previously, reacting to Celtic links, Hyeon-gyu said: "It's a bit difficult to say at this place, but when I heard that an offer came from the club, I said I wanted to go, and I'm waiting for the club's position on the offer."

The Hyeon-gyu interest comes despite Gue-Sung refusing to rule out a January transfer switch.

He said: "The transfer market is not over yet. I cannot give a definite answer about whether I will still be at the club after this window.

"I'm not in peak shape in the winter because I haven't played since the World Cup.

"I know if I went and signed for a European club, I would have to compete with players who are in 100% physical condition.

"But on the other hand, if I wait until the summer, there not be the same interest in me from the clubs who want me now. So no decision has been made."

Celtic are braced to lose Giorgos Giakoumakis this month with a £3m fee agreed with Urawa Red Diamonds.

But Ange Postecoglou is relaxed about transfer business and insisted contingency plans are in place should any players leave.

He said: “If people exit, then we have plans in place already that will counter that, but having brought in three players already we are in a position where we aren’t on tenterhooks about who is coming in or who is leaving.

“Our plans are in place, and the plan is to bring in at least one more, so we’re still working on that and if anything else is needing to be done then we are in a good position to do it.”
