Game after game, week after week, VAR is causing utter bafflement in Scottish football.

From red cards to penalties, fans, pundits, players and managers are seemingly constantly bemused by the use of the technology in the Premeirship. 

Yesterday, it was in operation for Celtic's 5-0 victory over Morton in the Scottish Cup. It was one of only three games this weekend to utlise the video assistance facilities. 

The opening goal came in extremely controversial circumstances. 

Aaron Mooy converted from the spot after a highly contentious penalty award for Ange Postecoglou's side.

Having waved play on, Kevin Clancy was advised by VAR Craig Napier to take a look at a potential handball incident inside the Morton box.

Liel Abada's shot was deflected by Jack Baird, with the ball in turn then striking Efe Ambrose's arm when he really couldn't do anything about it.

The on-field official checked the pitchside monitor to reflect on the situation, then pointed to the spot to give the Hoops the chance to go 1-0 up.

It was safe to say that Morton were left furious at the decision, with barely any appeals coming from the Celtic camp.

And in fact, it seems some of the Celtic players were just as confused and bewildered as those in the Ton ranks.

Footage has emerged on social media of Matt O'Riley take a cheeky look over the shoulder of Clancy reviewing the incident at the VAR monitor.

The Danish midfielder was on the bench for the Hoops and was therefore able to get a good glimpse of the screen.

The footage, posted by YouTuber fast_sin, shows O'Riley watching the monitor as replays of the handball were deliberated over.

The 22-year old can be seen pulling a rather bemused facial expression as he peers at the replays alongside Reo Hatate - who looked equally as baffled.

Overall, it took over five minutes for the decision to be reached following the initial stoppage for VAR to look into the incident.
