Chris Sutton has blasted Aberdeen owner Dave Cormack regarding his statement about Jim Goodwin's position as the club's manager.

The Irishman was in the firing line with the sack hanging over his head following the Dons' horrific 1-0 defeat to Darvel.

Several fan groups have called for the ex-St Mirren boss to be removed from his role at Pittodrie after the huge Scottish Cup shocker.

However, Cormack last night revealed that he and the rest of the board had opted to keep Goodwin as manager until their game against Hibs on Saturday

Ex-Celtic star Sutton has blasted Cormack's justification over the matter.

He wrote on Twitter: "What a ridiculous statement this is… beat Hibs or you’re sacked?? Make a decision one way or the other…"

Aberdeen are fifth in the Premiership, with St Mirren chasing them down.

A statement from Cormack read in full: “We all recognise that Monday’s disastrous result in the Scottish Cup was totally unacceptable.

"It added insult to injury after such a poor result against Hearts, following what was a strong performance in the semi-final against Rangers at Hampden.

“The football monitoring board, comprising Stewart Milne, Willie Garner, Steven Gunn and me, have now had a full and frank meeting with Jim.

"It wasn’t an easy conversation, but necessary after the overall poor results since the World Cup break.

“From our wider discussions over the last two days, we believe that the senior players and the squad are behind the manager.

"Combined with our discussions at today’s meeting, Jim will be in the dug-out on Saturday.

"However, to be clear, Jim has been left in no doubt that the Board and the fans are seeking an immediate response from him and the players.”
