Josip Juranovic made a debut to remember as life got off to a great start at Union Berlin.

The Croatian defender completed his move to the Bundesliga side on Sunday, as he departed Celtic.

The Hoops pocketed £10milllion for the right-back, opting to cash in on the World Cup star.

He was pitched in from the start as Union faced an away clash at Werder Bremen last night.

The 27-year-old's side are going great guns in Germany's top flight. 

They only trail Bayern Munich at the halfway point in the season. Last night's victory solidified their position in second spot.

And Juranovic played a key role in the 2-1 win.

Union actually got off to a poor start. They fell behind after just 13-minutes as Amos Pieper headed home from close-range.

However, the Bremen player went from hero to zero just four-minutes later, as he gifted Union a quickfire equaliser. His loose back pass to his goalkeeper was intercepted, with Janik Haberer was on hand to fire home.

After the break, Juranovic then played a major role in Union claiming all three points.

The ex-Celtic star whipped in a lovely corner kick towards the back post. It was met by Kevin Behrens, who headed home, back across goal to give the Bremen keeper no chance.

It was a big victory for the Croat's new team, as they kept their title and Champions League qualification hopes alive.

On a personal note for Juranovic, an assist in his first game would have been a huge bonus.

They are just three points off Bayern at the summit. Just four points separates Union in second and Wolfsburg down in seventh in a very tightly contested league.

Union take on city rivals Hertha Berlin in their next game.
