Barry Ferguson has told Rangers boss Michael Beale he should've resisted the temptation to get involved in a war of words with Chris Sutton.

The Ibrox No.1 yesterday took aim at the Celtic hero by branding him a "comedy act" and the "worst player ever" to turn out for his boyhood heroes Chelsea.

Beale was responding to comments that Sutton had made on BBC where he doubted whether Beale would have gifted Celtic a goal if Malik Tillman netted a controversial strike against them in a similar fashion to Partick Thistle in the Scottish Cup.

The tiff has continued into today, with Sutton hitting back, insinuating that Beale is a "dictator".

And ex-Gers skipper Ferguson insists Beale should not have got involved.

He told Go Radio's Football Show: "He is clearly annoyed Michael Beale about it but I would have body swerved it and not even spoke about what Chris Sutton said."

Fellow pundit Mark Guidi then claimed that Walter Smith would not have responded to pundit comments when addressing the media.

Ferguson added: "In terms of what Mark says about Walter Smith, I'm sure Walter Smith would have waited to get him alone in a room somewhere or wherever in a stadium.

"When I saw the comments from Michael Beale I did think there is no need to get involved with Chris Sutton."
