John Lundstram is adamant that there is no major gulf between Celtic and Rangers.

The midfielder insists the teams are on a level playing field despite the Hoops' 2-1 win the Viaplay Cup final last weekend.

The 29-year-old admitted himself that his performance was not up to the required standard in the showpiece event.

Michael Beale said that no Light Blues player did themselves justice in the game.

Ange Postecoglou's side are also currently nine points clear in the Premiership title race.

The Hoops are unbeaten in their three meetings against Rangers so far this campaign, with two wins and a draw to their name.

Despite these statistics, Lundstram insists there's no such gap between the Glasgow pair.

He explained: "It is one game, they turned up and we didn't. I think the combination for that didn't complement each other well.

"It looks like there is a massive gap but I don't think there is a massive gap. It is one game and looked like that at the weekend.

"But my personal opinion is that I don't think there is. I don't think the gap is as massive as one game portrays, they are a few points ahead of us in the league but we have showed we are a really good team.

"We have spoke internally about where we think we went wrong and that is one us. Not them being 100% better than us, we weren't ourselves and didn't get it right, that is on us and not the gap."

Meanwhile, the former Sheffield United midfielder revealed that he and his teammates held an internal meeting after last weekend's disappointing afternoon in Mount Florida.

He said: "It was a tough one at the weekend. It stings but we have to go into the weekend now and get a result.

"We have to get this out of our system this weekend, we spoke to each other and we know we need to do better.

"Nobody was angrier and more disappointed than the players. You have to go home and look at yourself.

"I take responsibility for my performance. I wasn't as involved in the game as I would have liked. We have spoken internally about where we went wrong. That is on us as players.

"We have to stay focused, work hard and try to stay positive which is obviously hard after a poor result."
