Yesterday’s Only Sport Scottish Amateur Cup Quarter Final ties did not fail to disappoint. All the games attracted impressive attendances.
Cupar Hearts (Kingdom of Fife AFA), Steins Thistle (Central Scottish AFL), East Kilbride Rolls Royce (Greater Glasgow Premier League) and East Kilbride Thistle Colts (Saturday Morning AFA) all secured their place in next week’s Semi Final draw after four pulsating matches.
Recent cup winners, Tollcross Thistle (Lothian and Edinburgh AFA) took a first-half lead at Cupar with a goal from Michael Yuill. The Fifers battled back with a storming second half display. A terrific Liam Kelly free kick and a stunning winner from substitute Ryan Gray earned the Hearts their 2-1 win.
Steins Thistle were the only side to win away from home, overcoming Doune Castle (Caledonian League) with a goal midway through the second half. Doune had enjoyed the better of the first half, but were unable to break the deadlock. Steins were the more likely side in the second half. An opportunist goal from Ryan Wilson was enough to take Steins through.
The Toryglen Regional Sports Facility hosted the all Saturday Morning AFA clash between East Kilbride Thistle Colts and Tannochside United. A Man of the Match display from keeper Conlan Gillick and two goals from Gary O’Hanlon proved decisive for the Colts. Despite being reduced to 10 men, they held on for a thrilling 3-2 win.
East Kilbride Rolls Royce ensured the South Lanarkshire town will have two representatives in the last 4 with a fine 3-1 win against Stonehaven’s Cowie Thistle, from the Aberdeenshire Amateur FA. ‘The Rolly’ purred into what had looked like an unassailable 3-0 lead at the K Park. However, a battling Cowie fought back with late goal to reduce the deficit to 3-1.
The dream of a Hampden Final very much remains for each of the Semi Finalists.
