Last month’s Viaplay Cup final success was Kyogo Furuhashi’s third trophy as a Celtic player – and the Japanese striker says that the day has to go down as one of the best of his career.
Ange Postecoglou’s men and Rangers went into the showpiece occasion at the national stadium in fine form as they prepared to fight it out for the first silverware of the season.
It was Furuhashi who broke the deadlock towards the end of the first half, reacting quickly after his compatriot Daizen Maeda fluffed his own shot at goal, to turn the ball home and hand Celtic a priceless lead at Hampden.
The 28-year-old then grabbed what proved to be the winning goal 10 minutes after the restart and although Alfredo Morelos’ opportunistic finish threatened a comeback, the men from Parkhead saw out their lead to claim the cup.
It was the second time Furuhashi lifted the League Cup and he admits that the whole occasion proved memorable for a host of reasons.
The fans’ favourite reckons the derby win ranks somewhere in the top five of his favourite games of his career – and he is adamant that he and his team-mates cannot afford to take their foot off the gas if they want to complete a domestic treble.
He told Celtic TV: “So, about the final – it was a great game, of course, against a strong opponent. Everything was a great experience.

“Looking back at the moments… to see the supporters, the staff and team-mates smiling when we won, that’s why I am trying to work every day to win games and win trophies.
“We keep continuing to improve, to have the same experience in the future. Rangers are a very good opponent, and we will play them again this season so we cannot relax. We must keep improving and continue to develop. For that, we need to score more goals.
“Looking back at the final, every game is memorable, but it is a top-five game in my career.”
