Celtic loanee Mikey Johnston made a strong start to his international career with the Republic of Ireland.

The 23-year-old, who is currently on the books of Portuguese side Vitoria de Guimaraes until the end of the season, switched allegiances from Scotland earlier this month.

And he made an instant impact for Stephen Kenny's side as he came off the bench in a friendly against Latvia 64 minutes in

Johnston had only been on the pitch for a brief period before changing the game.

With the fixture tied at 2-2, he picked up the ball on the edge of the box and ran at the opposition defence before firing a shot off the post.

The ball rebounded into the path of Irish forward Chiedozie Ogbene, who dispatched what turned out to be the winning goal on the night.

Johnston was not finished there, though, as he went on a run near the end of the match that almost capped off a dream debut.

The forward beat three players before his shot was blocked just in front of goal.

Meanwhile, Former Celtic captain Scott Brown has highlighted the "small details" of Ange Postecoglou's man management and how effective they can be.

The Hoops skipper returned to Parkhead as an Aberdeen player last season and went off injured during the match.

And he has revealed how the Hoops boss offered him the chance to walk around the pitch at full-time to thank the fans.

He said: "If I could steal a couple of his players I’d rather have that if possible! He was fantastic with me when I came back to Celtic Park with Aberdeen.

"He said to walk around the stadium and go and take the applause that you are due.

"That’s not for me doing that with another strip on. But even small details like that and other managers I’ve spoken to speak really highly of him as well.

"Would I have enjoyed playing for Ange? I think I would have. I’m not so sure I would enjoy playing for him at 37!

"I’d be struggling to keep up with the lads, that’s for sure."
